About

Established in 2009, Rhôd is an artist-run project which takes its name from a sixteenth century water-mill (Rhod is Welsh for water-wheel and also ‘the wheel of the heavens’). The project is based in the mill building and grounds of Melin Glonc, an 11 acre site of woods, meadow and water gardens around a Grade II listed mill in Drefelin, Carmarthenshire.

The Rhôd Artists Group (RhAG) comprises a core committee that organise events, exhibitions, talks, symposia, residencies and educational activity. RhAG also includes the wider family of Rhôd artists that have exhibited and worked with us over the years – over 80 artists from Wales, the UK and further afield.

The enduring theme of Rhôd’s activity is an exploration of the dialogue between rural and urban environments and the ways in which artists can help to think about and interpret those differences and similarities.

Sefydlwyd prosiect artistiaid Rhôd,yn 2009. Mae’r enw wedi ei symbylu gan olwyn ar safle’r felin ddŵr sydd yn dyddio o’r unfed ganrif ar bymtheg. [Yn Gymraeg mae Rhod hefyd yn golygu ffawd].Cartref y gweithgareddau yw Melin Glonc, a’r 11 acer o goedlan a gerddi gwyllt o’i gwmpas ym mhentref Drefelin, Sir Gar.

Mae pwyllgor Grŵp Artistiaid Rhôd yn trefnu digwyddiadau, arddangosfeydd, sgyrsiau, cynadleddau , preswyliadau a gweithgaredd addysgiadol. Mae hefyd oddeutu 80 o artistiaid cysylltiol ar draws Cymru, y DU ac yn ehangach, sydd wedi gweithio neu arddangos eu gwaith gyda ni dros y blynyddoedd.

Prif thema Rhôd yw ymchwilio’r berthynas rhwng y wlad a’r ddinas, a’r ffyrdd y gall artistiaid gyfrannu at archwilio a dehongli’r gwahaniaethau ac yn wir yr hyn sydd yn gyffredin i’r ddau amgylchedd.
